Selling on Etsy

As many of you are aware, Pure NaKeD Soap is sold online through an Etsy Shop.  An Etsy shop is independently owned and managed, but follows the rules and guidelines of Etsy.  This is how Pure Naked Soap appears on Etsy:

Etsy is a wonderful platform for handmade and vintage sellers.  There are many benefits to selling online through Etsy.  Etsy provides the platform, which allows handcrafters and vintage collectors to reach their target audiences.  Etsy also has a feedback system allowing customers to post a review of the products.  For a less than 4 star review, the seller can respond to the review publicly – but they cannot alter the review.  This provides customers with a better sense of product quality when purchasing through an Etsy shop compared to an independent site.

One of the other unique things about selling on Etsy is that shop owners can join teams of like minded shop owners to provide support and advice on marketing, products and more.  To help support some of my fellow Etsy sellers I will be posting a monthly update featuring some unique items found on Etsy, with some background information on the Etsy shop owner.  I will be looking for products created in the spirit of Pure Naked Soap, natural, renewable, environmentally friendly and unique.

If you sell on Etsy and have an item you would like featured in September, please post a link in the comments and a brief overview of some of your background information.  What motivated you to create or collect?  What makes your products special?  What is your story?  What are your business goals for the next year?  What do you love most about selling on Etsy?  What advice do you wish someone had shared with you when you first opened your Etsy shop?

  1. Your products are excellent, I’m a real fan of the organic cocoa butter. My husband uses it too :-).

I’d have to say that after I fell in love with glass fusing as a hobby, I needed a way to earn money to buy more art glass and continue learning and trying new techniques. That’s where Etsy came in, people told me I should sell some of my pieces there. What I wish someone had told me, is about SEO and how to get found in searches, as well as how helpful it is to join a good team and cross-promote on social networking sites.

I try to keep it fresh and unique, I don’t like to make the same things or the same designs over and over again. Here is an example, a night light shade in creams and browns: https://www.etsy.com/listing/241829870.

I try to sell smaller items because shipping is expensive for larger items – glass is heavy! But next year I plan to do some large, decorative bowls and dishes.

  2. I love the picture of you at a show with your daughter. How special to spend time with your family while doing something you love! Your products look amazing. I will have to come shopping at Christmas time!

I’ve been crocheting for years and had just begun to sell at a few craft shows when my daughter called to tell me about Etsy. I can honestly say that without a very special team on Etsy known as the Promotional Frenzy Team, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I have learned so much through the hard work and research of my team members who are always so willing to share what they learn.

I am in the process of trying to narrow down how many different products I keep in my shop, all while having a little something for everyone. My best seller by far has been my turtle pot holders which I designed myself. I’m pretty proud of them and quite often people buy more than one. I’ve been branching out with different colors this year. But I still love the ones with mostly green, like this one. https://www.etsy.com/listing/213118288/turtle-hot-pad-crocheted-turtle-pot

  3. I love everything about Pure Naked Soaps. Such great products!
For me, finding Etsy was the perfect way for me to share my art with others. After growing up in South Africa, I moved to New Zealand where I fell in love with it’s beauty. My photography showcases everything that I love about New Zealand nature and my paintings are an exploration of that. I have also delved into pattern making and print my designs onto fabric and other surfaces, mainly along home decor lines. What really drives me is the act of creating and how fulfilling that is. I truly believe that everyone has creativity within them, whether it is lying dormant or not!
I think joining a team on Etsy is hugely beneficial. Being a member of the Promotional Frenzy Team on Etsy has really helped me in getting an understanding of how to cross promote and use social media #PFT https://www.etsy.com/shop/NewCreatioNZ
